What's Blooming Now

I missed the official Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day on March 15... I always seem to... But I do have wonderful things blooming in my garden.

Carolina jessamine...

Daffodils... a 2009 Christmas present from my grandmother.
Sweet olive... I love sweet olive. The fragrance is amazing coming from such a tiny flower.
Pansies...
And a peeping tom... hehe.
Also, the blog isn't the only thing around here that has gotten an update. We got the house painted. Here is a before photo from January... before the paint and before I cut back roses and lantana.
And here's an after photo.
Yep, its yellow. It is Sherwin Williams Cupola Yellow (SW7692). I have mixed feelings about it. I really did not like the peachy, pinky stucco before. My plan was to keep the color in the neutral zone but lean towards the yellow side of the color spectrum... I don't think I exactly accomplished that with this color.

On one hand I say, "Damn, that's bright..." and on the other hand I say, "Of course it looks bright now when the lawn and perennials are dormant and drab looking!" Maybe once I have some hot pink knockout roses, bright yellow, orange, and pink lantanas, purple irises, and pretty white and yellow shasta daisies blooming it won't look quite so bright. Ha, am I kidding myself?

Opinions, please?! Be honest. I neither love or hate this color, and since we really only have two walls with this paint on it (front and back) it would be easy to change. Nevertheless, I am waiting until everything greens up to make my final decision.

Love the new look of the blog! I'll have to admit, my first thought when i saw the paint was, "whoa, that is yellow". I don't hate it though. You might be right about waiting til things are green and blooming. Cute peeping tom, by the way!

I like it a lot, but my house is navy blue and houses in my (50's) neighborhood are all kinds of colors.... so it would look normal around here. Plus S & I generally have very eclectic and modern tastes, so I may be the wrong person to ask! Ha.

If you take it to a paler yellow, I think you'll run the risk of the house looking like a dirty cream. The thing that's nice about this yellow is that it's warm and rich. Just remember that yellows can also be cool (unless you think cool is right for the house).

LOVE Walle looking through the window.

My jessamine has never bloomed....sigh... think I need to move it to where it gets more sun. At least it provides a little coverage of our hideous chainlink fence :-)

The thing is, I don't hate it either, but I think it is a little much compared to all the neutrals in my neighborhood. We are really the ONLY house with a color on it. That's not good...

Ginger, good point about the pale yellow. I don't think a cool color would look right against the red brick. What I really want is a khaki on the yellow side of the spectrum.

Anyway, still gonna wait until everything greens up, but now I am leaning towards painting it.

I think the color looks great... why we all try to color our houses in whites and greys I will never understand... but this yellow looks neutral enough to me.. Maybe it will brighten your days! I say give it a year, if you still don't like it that's the time to paint.

I agree with LisaJennings. I think the yellow is fabulous. Cheerful, and not garish by any stretch. It's definitely on the neutral side. I'm guessing you're just shocked because it's so different. But it's really pretty.

Hi there,
I know this is an old post but I am trying to find a golden yellow that is not so bright but I also picked up the cupola yellow. My house is also stucco with mostly whites or creams on my block and worried this yellow will be a bit much. Did you decide to stick with it or did you change? I would love to see a photo if you changed to something else and what that color is.
Thanks!
Michelle
