First iPhone Post

My purple irises will all be blooming soon.

This is my first post from my iPhone. I couldn't get mail2blogger to work with yahoo mail (photos displayed as broken links), so I purchased the BlogPress app for $2.99. So far, I like it! This app was just what I was looking for.

Blogging from my iPhone with Yahoo! mail

Maybe you noticed yesterday, but I tried to do a post from my iPhone. I've been wanting to try it because there are definitely times when I want to do a post, but I am away from a computer.

Case-in-point: Chip's friend Aven made a Bacon Explosion for the Super Bowl Party on Sunday. You've just got to see it to believe it... but the photo is on my iPhone Camera Roll. Wouldn't it be great to be able to post it to the blog directly from my phone?

Well, posting from the iPhone didn't work so well for me. It was easy to figure out the whole Mail2Blogger thing... not a problem at all. I got the post up, but my photo wasn't appearing. Finally, I found some other Blogger users who'd had the same problem, and it seems to be a compatibility issue with Yahoo! mail and Blogger. Basically, photos sent from Yahoo! mail won't show up in a Blogger post. I'm still trying to understand WHY... Some folks think it is because Yahoo! mail embeds the photos as .bmp, while Blogger expects them to be attached as .jpg. But, I can't find anything that proves that is the real problem.

One solution that I have found is to get a Gmail account. No big surprise that Gmail and Blogger are compatible. Then, to be able to email from my iPhone Camera Roll, I have to set the Gmail account as the default account on my iPhone. Grrr... This solution is not ideal for me. I don't want three email addresses. And I don't want to switch everything from Yahoo! mail to Gmail just to to blog.

So, I'm still looking for solutions. I'm also a Picasa user, so solutions involving an upload to Picasa from the iPhone Camera Roll could work, I just haven't looked into them yet.

So what happened to the failed iPhone post? I deleted it. Once I figure out how to get this working I'll post with text and photos. Yay!

Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. My husband and I sure did. I didn't get much time off, but I'll be off Monday and Tuesday and I can't wait. I have some garden projects planned. The weather is supposed to be nice on Monday - sunny and 62F - so I'll be able to get outside and do some gardening.

My blog readers are lucky because one of my Christmas gifts was Photoshop CS2! Soon A Shower Fresh Garden will be getting a makeover. I've grown very tired of this color scheme and I want a better page header. I hope I can come up with something good during my vacation.

Have a safe and happy New Year!

What happens when your computer crashes?

I'll tell you what happens when my computer crashes. Work becomes very hard. The things that used to be easy to do - look up a stored proc, read a quick snippet from a document I wrote in 2005, email someone whose email address I don't have stored in my brain - become acts of God to get done. For two weeks I endured life without VPN. And for three weeks I pretended to be a Systems Analyst without SQL Server. Ha!

Needless to say, during those three weeks the LAST thing I wanted to do when I got off work was to look at the computer! I didn't want to blog! Everything was harder to do when I didn't have a trusty laptop by my side.

This was my computer screen on June 14th. Yikes!

Thankfully the good folks at the helpdesk were able to get it fixed. Yes, I sometimes blog using my work laptop. No, I don't save my photos to the laptop. I use picasa. Thank goodness. Because that means my photos didn't get eaten by the hard drive killer monster.

I am back up with a rebuilt laptop, VPN, and SQL Server. And I'm ready to blog. I have a lot to say! I'll be in Oxford this week (leaving today), so hopefully during my down time I can do a few posts this week to catch everyone up.

The Garden Blog is Back!
